I had contacted my friends 9M2LR and 9M2SK concerning a disturbing 2 page propaganda piece I read in the Star Weekend Supplement and 9M2LR has now kindly forwarded me the below very well written complaint to The Star by "Ham Crusader" (anon?) which I'd like to say, exactly that what he predicted has happened: I am a foreign Radio Ham (Ham = High Frequency Radio Amateur) and also the Editor of IMT-GT News, and I was really shocked to see such a completely false and misleading article published in The Star which can do nothing but sow confusion onto the very group of licensed radio amateurs to which the very development of radio as a form of long-distance communication owes its thanks, since the days of Marconi. Not only is Pradas nothing to do with Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) and while it may be possible that they lead people toward becoming Radio Hams it is hard to see how they can do that if they themselves are not licensed Radio Hams.

Additionally, and disturbingly, the Government of Malaysia is violating the International Telecommunications Union regulations on the allocation of radio call signs, if they are indeed issuing licenses starting with PR. PR followed by 2 letters is allocated to Brazilian-registered sea vessels (ships), and PR followed by 3 letters is allocated to Brazilian aircraft. While the military can use whatever call signs they like, the VHF signals from Malaysia's "Pradas" could still be heard outside Malaysian territorial waters, so it would surely not be a good idea to start this practice. Is the Government really aware of this, and if so which Ministry? It really sets a bad precedent, and at the very least The Star should explain why it did not consult with MARTS prior to publication.

I am guessing that this Pradas club is a PMR (Private Mobile Radio) club, or is it really something different and new that gives an exclusive frequency and higher power than that already allowed to unlicensed PMR radio in Malaysia?
